I love thrifting! Not only is it better for the Earth to shop secondhand, it’s fun to hunt for things and cheaper on your pocketbook. Sometimes I’m running random errands and have time to kill in between but had trouble finding thrift stores on the fly if I didn’t already know about them, until now! Check out the custom map to see what’s near you and then scroll the list to find out more.

I have not been to every shop on this list! I asked for input from local folks online and am happy to add others as I find them or you can leave a comment. With that being said, my personal favorites are the Black Mountain Goodwill, Goodwill Outlet (the best!! pictured above), Second Chances Thrift Store, and Children’s Trading Post for consignment! Lastly, I want to note that I’ve included any store that sells secondhand with the intent of keeping things out of the landfill and finding good deals, I don’t know anything about some of the organizations that are running them or endorse their programs by listing them.

If you’re looking at this list for places to either access free clothing or to donate things where people in need can access them for free, also consider (these are also on the map):
- ABCCM– several locations that can help with free adult clothing among other assistance
- BEAR Closet– several locations offering free baby gear, clothes, diapers, etc. as well as bigger items to borrow.
- Buncombe County Health and Human Services Foster Closet – sharing free clothes with kids in the foster system.
- Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry Clothing Closet– free clothes & household goods.
- Western Carolina Rescue Ministries– offers periodic, scheduled clothing closets among other assistance.

Thank you so much! I have been getting frustrated with Goodwill so I am excited to learn about what other options there are around town for both donating to and buying from. Buying 2nd hand is so much better for the environment.

I still love goodwill myself, haha, but yes lots of options out there! I saw on your IG you do a lot of art – I have super good luck finding craft supplies at the goodwill bins, they’re my favorite, I do crafty stuff on another account/blog @swoodsonsays 🙂
